Station 1300 Shoring

With nearly 400,000 SF of subterranean parking on two levels encompassing 1000 Parking stalls, the construction of the underground garage at Station 1300 was a massive undertaking.  To accomplish excavating the 450,000 Cubic Yards of dirt, temporary shoring was required to stabilize neighboring structures, parking lots, Caltrain tracks and city streets.  Due to Caltrans requirements, internal bracing had to be implemented as tie backs are no longer permitted under El Camino Real.  The solution involved a myriad of temporary shoring approaches that pulled from every tactic in our playbook.  A combination of solider piles, ties backs, internal bracing, and sheet piling were all implemented to stabilize the existing built environment surround the site.  Working closely with WL Butler and Condon Johnson, the shoring contractor, the team was able to develop a cost-effective way to climb this hill or in this case dig a giant hole.
