Silver Oak Cellars
Oakville, California
Hohbach-Lewin provided structural engineering services for the new Hospitality, Administration, and Production Buildings at Silver Oak Cellars in Oakville. The Hospitality building, flanked by the winery’s iconic historic water tower, features exposed mortise and tenon timber framing at the interior and an exterior finish of hand quarried limestone reclaimed from a 19th century flour mill. The project employed a variety of structural materials and systems ranging from long span steel bents, to concrete tilt up walls. One of the biggest structural engineering challenges was coordinating the mortise and tenon timber roofing design and the stone veneer clad masonry wall with modern seismic design requirements while maintaining a traditional appearance.
