Abraham Lincoln High School

The project included a new $15M, two-story steel moment resisting frame building which replaces 26 tired and time worn re-locatable buildings and bungalows, which dated back to WWII and were sorely in need of replacement. San Francisco Unified School District wanted to provide current and future generations of San Francisco students with state of the art facilities which adhered to the very latest principles of sustainable design. Levy Design Partners and their consultants responded with a two story building carefully situated on the campus to take full advantage of the unique micro climate and solar exposure opportunities of this San Francisco Sunset district location. By employing sunscreens, side fins, manual and motorized black out shades and strategically designed overhangs on the southern exposures, along with an innovative displacement ventilation mechanical system, the project was able to achieve 29 points under the CHPS (Collaborative for High Performance Schools) program making this site among the first SFUSD school sites to achieve CHPS certification.
