Roble Gymnasium Voluntary Seismic Retrofit and Reprogramming
Roble Gymnasium Building re-opened in the Fall of 2016 as Stanford’s newest Arts Building. Originally built in 1931 as the women’s gymnasium, the $28 million renovation created new theatrical performance spaces and updated several dance studios, rehearsal spaces, and classrooms, including a beautiful dance performance space in keeping with its original Spanish architecture. Structural challenges included qualifying and improving the existing arcades and strengthening the existing diaphragms, while respecting the historic architecture. Cody Anderson Wasney was the architect and Vance Brown performed the construction.
